What if the goal isn’t doing more, but doing what God asks—completely?

So often we measure faithfulness by volume. How much we accomplished. How many people we helped. How busy our day looked. But Scripture points us toward something deeper than activity: alignment with God’s will, carried out through to the finish.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do” (John 17:4). Notice He didn’t say He did every possible good thing—He said He finished the work given to Him. There’s freedom in that. We aren’t responsible for everything; we’re called to faithfully complete what He places in our hands.

This is where the Holy Spirit becomes our partner. He helps us discern not just any good work, but the right one. And He empowers us to see it through with excellence—not the frantic kind of effort that burns us out, but the steady, Spirit-led kind that bears lasting fruit.

A simple prayer for today:

“Holy Spirit, show me the work You’ve prepared for me. Help me to do it well, to do it fully, and to bring You glory in the doing.”
