Faith Leadership: Old Things Are Passed Away

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Have you ever introduced yourself by your scars?
We do it without thinking. We meet someone new and quietly hand them the edited version, the failures, the labels, the things that happened to us that we’ve decided are who we are. But what if the most honest thing you could say about yourself isn’t your history at all?

Read that slowly. Old things are passed away. Not managed. Not improved. Passed away.
In the original language, that phrase carries the weight of something that has gone by and will not return, a chapter genuinely closed, not bookmarked for later. The person you used to be, with every limitation that defined you, no longer holds the title deed to your life.  So here’s the honest question: who told you that you were still that old self?

Because so much of our striving comes from trying to perform our way into an identity we’ve already been given. We pray as beggars when we’ve been seated as sons and daughters. We apologise for taking up space that Christ purchased for us with His own blood. But you cannot live a new-creation life looking from an old-creation mirror.

Notice that word “behold.” It’s an invitation to look again. To stop staring at who you were and start seeing who God already declares you to be.
Your new identity isn’t a reward for getting it right. It’s a gift you receive the moment you are placed in Christ. Not earned by performance. Eternally established by position.
So look in the right mirror today. So what the last business failed. So what you made a mistake in your previous job and got fired. Behold, old things are passed away.
Get up and look in that mirror today and declare, “old things are passed away, all things are become new.”
And go and start the new business. Apply again for a new job.

In Christ, you are a new creation. The old has passed away. You are not who you were, you are who God says you are, right now. Walk in it. Speak it. Live from it.

You are new. Completely. Permanently.
