Prayers Of The Spirit: Counted Worthy of This Calling
Study The Word
2 Thessalonians 1:11 (KJV)
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.
As we continue to study this prayer point of the Holy Spirit and look at it in the KJV this time around you’d see that it says here, “…that our God would count you worthy of this calling.” What calling is He referring to here? When you study the context from verse 7 you’d discover that He is referring to the calling of His appearing and the catching away of the church – the rapture. And also His subsequent return with the church at His second coming when He comes back this time together with His saints. So the prayer point is so that God would count you worthy of His calling for the rapture, glory to God! What a prayer.
Now, if you are a child of God and filled with the Spirit of God, being in Christ, and you believe not only in Him but also in that day “when He shall come”, that means you fit the criteria for God to count you worthy! He has already deemed you worthy because you are a part of His saints whom He shall come for “…When He shall come to be glorified in His saints and to be admired in all them that believe…in that day.” (2 Thessalonians 1:10) And then lastly what you will need to do while you wait for that day of His coming is what we have in verse 11 which is to pray the prayer of the Spirit: “Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.”
ἀξιόω axioō count worthy – to deem worthy, to think fit, consider deserving, judge qualified, esteem suitable, account as meeting the standard
So the criteria to be counted worthy is clear in the context, which is firstly – believe in the testimony of Jesus Christ i.e. believe in what He already came and did; secondly – believe in that day when He shall come i.e. believe in what He is coming back to do. Now because of this you are to begin to pray this prayer of the Spirit which is: “…pray always that God would count you worthy of this calling.” Now, if you’re a born again and child of God who believes in Jesus Christ then non of the things in the criteria should be a problem or issue for you, you already believe in all these things therefore you should know that you are counted worthy!
That word “count worthy” in the Greek is axioō, and it means to deem worthy, to think fit, to consider deserving, to judge qualified! God Himself has judged you qualified! God Himself has deemed you suitable! God Himself considers you deserving of this calling upon your life! Not because of your works—but because of what Jesus Christ did for you, and that you believe it! Not only that but also you believe in what He is coming back to do, glory to God! Therefore, God counts you worthy of this calling! So you don’t have to be like those who are not sure, or who are afraid of whether or not they will make the rapture! No! You are confident that God counts you worthy!
Say this: I believe that Jesus Christ came, died, rose again and ascended into heaven; I believe He is coming back again, therefore I am qualified, I am worthy of God’s eternal calling!
And then He says because you believe in Him and He has counted you worthy and as you are patiently waiting for His coming, may God “…fulfil all the good pleasure of His goodness, and the work of faith with power.” Say out loud, “God is fulfilling all the good pleasure of His goodness in my life today, in the name of Jesus Christ!” See this is a prayer point of the Spirit, it reveals God’s will that He wants to see fulfilled in your life. So you need to boldly appropriate it in prayer and declaration!
πίστις pistis faith – conviction of truth, persuasion
Now, this is a special word for somebody who has been discouraged by others. Hallelujah. People have said to you, “Because of what you did there, and what you said there, and what happened there—you are not qualified.” But the Word of God reveals to us that God has counted you worthy of this calling! He has counted you worthy! He’s counting on you! And He has counted and called you faithful because of your faith in Jesus Christ!
You see, your qualification is not based on your performance—it’s based on your pistis, your faith in Jesus Christ! It is based on your faith in what He came to do, and what He is coming back to do! So it doesn’t matter what they said! It doesn’t matter who disqualified you! Jesus Christ with His own blood qualified you for God’s purpose! Qualified you for God’s calling upon your life!
Never let any lie stop you again! Never let any voice of discouragement say that you are not qualified to serve God! Because Jesus Christ of Nazareth—He has qualified you!
He qualifies you every day! He qualifies you when you feel like it—He’s qualifying you! When you don’t feel like it—He’s qualifying you! When people say you can’t—He’s qualifying you! When people say you’re disqualified—He’s still qualifying you!
εὐδοκία eudokia good pleasure – delight, pleasure, good will, pleasant intent
Think about this: you’re no longer qualified because of your education. You’re no longer qualified because of your background. You’re no longer qualified because of your family name. You’re no longer qualified because of what you did or didn’t do. You’re no longer qualified because of what they said. You are qualified because of the blood of Jesus Christ! His blood is your qualification! His blood is your credential! His blood speaks better things on your behalf!
“I command every lie of the devil—every voice of disqualification—to be silenced right now in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Rise up from that place of discouragement! Rise up from that depression! Take up your place and fulfill your call! God will back you up! God will back up every work of your faith with power! Every work of your faith with His power—because He has qualified you and called you to fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness in and through you! Glory to God!”
Pray The Word
Heavenly Father, I thank You for counting me worthy of this calling. I silence every voice of disqualification from the enemy right now in Jesus’ name. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for qualifying me with Your precious blood—not according to my works, not according to my ability, but according to Your own purpose and power. I take up my place today to fulfill all the good pleasure of Your goodness in me, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Speak The Word
God has considered me worthy of His calling in Christ Jesus and fit to fulfill His call of service! I am qualified by the blood of Jesus Christ—not by my performance, not by what others say, but by His precious blood alone! Every lie of disqualification is silenced over my life. I rise up in strength to take my place and fulfill my calling, and God backs up every work of my faith with His miraculous power, in the name of the Lord Jesus!
