Prayers Of The Spirit: The Divine License to Prosper
Study The Word
3 John 1:2 (NKJV)
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
Today we have one of the most powerful prayers of the Holy Spirit found in the entire New Testament. This is the final prayer point of the Spirit in the epistles, and what a glorious conclusion it is! Notice carefully that in the King James Version, the translators rendered this as “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper...” but when you conduct your word study, you discover that the Greek word is euchomai, which is prayer. So this wasn’t merely a casual wish from the Apostle John to his friend Gaius—this was a prayer inspired by the Spirit of God! A prayer of the Spirit!
εὔχομαι euchomai pray – to pray, wish, desire, make a vow, invoke blessing
Think about this: some people have the audacity to go around telling God’s children that prosperity is not God’s will for them. They’ve even coined a term—”the prosperity gospel”—as if it were something unscriptural or dangerous. But I want you to understand something today: there is no such thing as a “prosperity gospel.” The gospel, in its purest form and totality, makes men prosper!
The embodiment of the Word of truth from Genesis to Revelation—you cannot go through all of that and come out with the conclusion that prosperity is not part of God’s plan for His children. There must be something wrong with your understanding if you arrive at such a conclusion!
The same people who peddle this ignorance even on big platforms and pulpits, if you ask any or all of them whether they want their own children to prosper or not, if they sincerely were to answer, they will all tell you that do want their own children to prosper. In fact they wake up day and night going about doing everything they can to provide for their children so that their children can have a chance to prosper in life. And then they have the audacity to claim their speaking on behalf of God saying prosperity is not God’s will? Foolery!
Thank God for the Bible! 3 John 1:2 is a prayer of the Spirit! It was given by inspiration of God to the apostle, written to express the Spirit of God’s intent for a child of God, and therefore it reveals to you the plan and the purpose and the will of God for the prosperity of His children. What kind of loving father would not want his children to prosper? You, as a parent—don’t you want your children to prosper? The same people who claim God doesn’t want His children to prosper are the very ones working day and night to ensure their own children succeed! Can you see the double standard? The hypocrisy? Don’t listen to that nonsense! Listen to the word of God!
εὐοδόω euodoō prosper – a prosperous and expeditious journey, to lead by a direct and easy way, to grant success, to prosper
Now look at this word euodoō—the Greek word translated “prosper.” It means to have an easy path to success, a prosperous and expeditious journey of success! Who wouldn’t want that? God wants you to have an easy way to success. He wants you to succeed easily, to have an easy journey of success in all things. This is incredible! God has literally designed for you a direct and easy way to prosper in everything you do. He wants you to succeed in your business affairs, in your profession, in your ministry, in your relationships—in all things!
So if anyone still has a problem accepting this truth after going through such a word study and they claim to be speaking on behalf of God while saying that prosperity is not His will for you—that is absolutely rubbish! Just walk away, don’t even waste time. It’s a lie from the pit of hell!
Here’s what you must understand: all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. Whether the apostles were writing to the church in Galatia, whether Paul was writing to Timothy, whether John was writing to Gaius—it was all given by inspiration of God. That makes it the will of God. It tells you God’s intent. And if God’s intent for you is to prosper in all things, then why would somebody go through the Word of God and come out saying the opposite? Make it make sense.
ψυχή psuchē soul – the seat of feelings, desires, the mind, will and emotions
The Amplified Version captures it beautifully: “Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health physically, just as I know your soul prospers spiritually.” So God has given you a license to prosper. He has given you a license to succeed. This license was purchased through the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. You have the divine authorization to prosper in everything that you lay your hands upon to do! Prosperity is at work in you—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Only prosperity, only success at work in your life! Hallelujah!
So don’t let anybody ever cheat you. Don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking that prosperity is not for God’s children. God put this prayer in Scripture so that you can establish His plan and His purpose of prosperity for your life. Everywhere you go, there’s only success. Everything you do, there’s only prosperity. Everything you get involved with prospers in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
Go and prosper!
Pray The Word
Heavenly Father, I thank You that it is Your will for me to prosper in all things. I reject every lie that says prosperity is not part of Your plan for my life. I thank You that You have given me a divine license to prosper, to succeed, and to have an easy path to success in everything I lay my hands upon to do. I enforce Your will for prosperity in my life today, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Speak The Word
I have a divine license to prosper! God’s will for my prosperity is established in my life today. Everything I lay my hands upon to do prospers and turns to success. I prosper in my business, I prosper in my profession, I prosper in my ministry, I prosper in my relationships—I prosper in all things! Prosperity is at work in me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the name of Jesus!
