Prayers Of The Spirit: The Four-Fold Work of God In You

Study The Word

1 Peter 5:10 KJV
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

There is a divine process that the God of all grace has set in motion for your life, especially after you’ve gone through challenges, trials and the attacks of the enemy. The devil may have roamed around like a roaring lion seeking to devour you, putting all kinds of pressure on you, sending forth attacks and temptations.  But here’s the truth – whatever challenge you’re facing right now is not unique to you. Other Christians all around the world have probably faced something similar or are facing the same thing. The circumstances around it may be unique, but the challenge is the same because the devil doesn’t have new tricks! And that pressure, those challenges – they’re only going to last for a little while.

But after you have suffered a while, the God of all grace who has called you unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus will now do four distinct works in your life. These are not just suggestions or possibilities – these are eternal plans and purposes of God that were established in eternity for your spiritual development and for the perfect will of God to be established in your life!

καταρτίζω katartizō perfect –  mend to perfection & completion, repair to perfection & completion, frame into perfection & completion, fit out/equip to perfection & completion.

The first work is PERFECTION. The word translated “make you perfect” is katartizo in the Greek, which means to restore, to make you complete, to repair or mend to perfection! This is God’s restorative work to bring you to completeness. Whatever the devil broke or stole or delayed in your life during that season of pressure, God is restoring it unto perfection! This is the restorative work that the Holy Spirit will begin to do as you pray this prayer of the Spirit.

στηρίζω stērizō establish – to set fast, fix firmly, make stable, to render constant, steadfast, to set one’s face steadfastly, to strengthen, establish

The second work is ESTABLISHMENT. The word “stablish” comes from sterizo, which means to set you firmly, to make you stable, to render you constant and steadfast! This is about creating a firm foundation in your life – no more up and down, no more here today and not here tomorrow. There’s a stability that God will establish in your life. A stability about your purpose, a stability about the things that pertain to your life! Hallelujah! God is going to make you stable and make you into an establishment!

σθενόω sthenoō strengthen – to make strong, strengthen

The third work is STRENGTHENING. God gives you sthenoo – divine strength of your soul! This is mental strength and emotional strength. The will of God is for you to be strong mentally, to be strong emotionally in every season. Whether it’s a good season or a challenging season, you will be strong in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! You have the mental strength to face anything. You will have the emotional strength to go through any challenge in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Some people lack the strength of will. So they can decide on one thing today, and then at the first sign of some bit of resistance or contrary news or appearance, they change their decision. They don’t have a strong will. If that is you, then this prayer of the Spirit is for you, to be strengthened in your mind, will and emotions. With this you will develop the mental toughness, the sthenoo to take decisions, stick with them and see them through, glory to God!

θεμελιόω themelioō settle – to lay the foundation, to found, to make stable, establish

The fourth work is SETTLING. The word “settle” is themelioo, which means to lay a foundation, and to make you into a firm foundation! God is making you into an establishment – a pillar of strength, a pillar of hope, a pillar of encouragement. A firm foundation that is established and that can stand the test of time, that can stand the test of challenges, that can stand the test of trials, that can stand the test of attacks!

These four divine works of the Spirit of God – perfection, establishment, strength and stability – are not random.  These are strategic, especially when you consider the things that going on in the world around us.  You need this. These are the eternal purposes of God for every Christian for this time, especially for the end time because you are going to need them.  And it doesn’t matter how many years you’ve been a Christian, how many years you’ve been serving in the five-fold ministry. You require this for your spiritual strength, mental and emotional strength and development, so that you can be a success in these end-times!
