The Purpose & Power Of Writing: Faith Works With Writing

Study The Word

2 Corinthians 4:13

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

You’ve heard a lot of powerful things over the past couple of days about the purpose and power of writing. Now, once you’ve meticulously written down the plan of your life—once you’ve designed your future with pen and paper—the natural, pressing question arises: How do you actually get to that plan? How do you move from the blueprint to the actualization of what you’ve created through writing?

The Word of God tells us, unequivocally, that it’s going to happen through faith! (Hebrews 11:3) “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

So what, then, does that truly mean in practical terms? It means this next phase of your life that you have created and designed in writing—whether it’s in your personal life, your career, or your business—this meticulously crafted plan, is not just meant to sit there, a silent document on a shelf. Now you need to move to the next level principle, which is faith, where you must speak it! You give it a voice! That’s how things fundamentally change. If you don’t do that, you can pray and pray with all your might, you can even add fasting to your prayers, but very little is going to change.

This is precisely how it changes: there have been so many good definitions of faith over the years, but when we look at how the Bible defines faith, we undoubtedly come to the conclusion that faith speaks! Faith is the spoken Word! I have a teaching that I did that teaches this thoroughly, titled “The Faith of the Word of God,” and you can go and listen to it on our Triumph podcast platform.

So, understand this crucial truth: faith is the word spoken, but it is the spoken word of what has been written. That is what our opening scripture reveals—the spirit of faith is according to what has been written. Hebrews 11:3 says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.” That term translated as “word of God” in this powerful verse is the Greek word Rhema, which specifically refers to the living, active logos (word) that is spoken.

And remember what we discovered at the beginning of this series regarding the logos that was in the beginning in John chapter 1:45—logos is the written word. When you tie together what John reveals and Genesis 1, where it reveals how “God said” and spoke creation into existence, we see how the written word and faith—the spoken word—work together. Faith is the written word (logos) in the form of speaking! So, every single time the Bible teaches you about faith, every time it defines its operation, it always, without exception, tells you that it has a direct, undeniable connection to speaking, and that speaking is based on what has been written. Faith is when the logos is spoken! That is the only way to ensure that this expression of faith is faith in God, because it is the faith that is working with the written Word of God. That is what I call “The Faith of the Word of God.”

So this is how God used writing in the process of faith to recreate His world, and He expects you to do the same and employ the same principles with your life. Genesis chapter 1 reveals to us that the worlds, the very cosmos you inhabit, were framed—literally brought into existence—by the spoken word of God. And also the age where that very cosmos had been destroyed by God’s judgment was also restored and recreated for a new beginning, according to Hebrews 11:3. It says, “such that things which are seen were not made by things which do appear.”

Remember this vital progression: the written word—that’s your design, your meticulous plan, your vision, even with its vision board—it primarily creates the shape, the quality, the very blueprint of how your life, your next level, must look. It gives you a clear, vivid picture of what your future must encompass. That’s the purpose and power of the written word. Now, then there’s the speaking one—your words of faith, your declarations, your confessions—that is what now brings it into being; it literally gives creative energy into what you’ve created in writing! And that speaking is what now actively transports you, catapults you into the reality you’ve meticulously designed and created in writing. You see this divine order?

Consider this, which is a truth that I teach in the Faith series, which is that, primarily, faith is heard. It is not primarily seen. Faith is heard! That is what the Bible reveals to us. Like, for example, when Jesus calmed the storm, the disciples didn’t see anything just happen; they heard His commanding voice first, and then they saw the great calm. Same thing with the cursing of the fig tree; the Bible says that when Jesus cursed the fig tree, “his disciples heard it,” they didn’t see anything until a day or so later when they then saw the withered fig tree. That means that the speaking is faith in action! The action of faith is the speaking. So according to the teachings in the Word of God, the very action of faith is the speaking!

And Jesus taught this in His famous teaching about faith in Mark 11:22-23: “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. (note: the faith of God) 23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

This is Jesus’s teaching and definition of faith, which in verse 22 He called “The faith of God.” He said it works by what you say, it works through speaking. And this is also the very similar teaching of faith that Apostle Paul gave in Romans 10:9-10 where he said, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

What are the striking revelations that we see from both these teachings? Both of them reveal that faith is speaking; and the second thing that they reveal is that Jesus said “don’t doubt in your heart” and Paul said “believe with your heart,” and that’s absolutely amazing. And that these two, believing and doubt are what operate in your heart; but faith works in your mouth-faith is the spoken word! You get it? Because believing is something else; believing is not faith. There’s a big difference between believing and faith, and a lot of Christians have always confused believing with being faith, but believing is not faith. If you want to learn what believing is and its difference from faith, go and listen to my teaching “The Faith of the Word of God.” Haha!

Ok, so never be confused or sidetracked by partial explanations about faith; listen to Jesus! Jesus never gave us a partial definition of faith. He never gave us partial truths. He never gave partial teachings that needed supplementation. He said, “I am the way, the truth...” So, whatever explanation or teaching that Jesus gives you about a spiritual principle is absolute truth; there’s no need for another one, no room for any other supplementation or interpretations. He said what He said; don’t add to it. And He said “whosoever shall say …those things which he says …shall have whatsoever he says.” What does this mean? Speak!!! That’s faith-The Faith Of God!

So the divine sequence of how these two principles work together are clear: the writing designs and creates, and the speaking materializes. This is the simple, yet profound, progression: first, there was the writing, the blueprint, the divine plan; and then, there was the speaking, the rhema, the activation; and then the supply of supreme authority, the King’s seal, the name of Jesus Christ, followed by glorious materiality, the manifestation and actualization in the physical realm. Simple!

This is precisely how God brought everything you see into existence. It was through the consistent and deliberate application of principles. Now you know the principle, and it’s a game-changer: faith speaks and faith works with writing! Activate it in your life today!
