The Purpose & Power Of Writing: The Books of Eternal Judgment

Revelation 20:12 & 15
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works… 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

This is probably one of the most sobering and profound examples of the purpose & power of writing in all of scripture, all of eternity and all of the entirety of the existence of mankind. The Apostle John sees a vision of the Great Throne Of Judgment, where all “the dead” are standing before God.  And the Scripture says, “the books were opened”. There are books that record the works and deeds of every single person. Think about it.

The eternal destinies of all mankind are going to be based and decided upon based on that which is written in the book of life.  The book of life has to be the most important book of writing of all time. The bible says that the judgment of all is going to be carried out according to what is written in those books. Think about that! The final verdict is not based on memory, or on what someone said, but on what is meticulously written in the books that are in heaven even as we speak…or as you read.  Dear God! So sobering.  Then, the Scripture says “another book… the book of life”.
This is the most critical book of all! Why? Because the final, unchangeable, and eternal destiny of every person is determined by whether their name is “written in the book of life” or not. INCREDIBLE! The final judgment is not a debate; it is a check of the written record. If your name is not found written in that book, you have no hope.

This tells us that the most important thing in all of creation, more valuable than any possession, any achievement, or any earthly record, is only going to be concluded forever and all eternity with writing.  Question? Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? This is all that matters after this realization. This is the ultimate act of writing that will determine your eternal destiny. It’s a testament to the enduring, absolute authority of the written record in heaven. Hence through this month we’ve been emphasizing how if it’s written, it’s final.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the grace of salvation through Jesus Christ, which has made it possible for my name to be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. I am so grateful that my eternal destiny is secure, not because of my works, but because of what is written in that book by the power of Your grace, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

My name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life! My eternal destiny is sealed and secure! I am not judged by the books of my works, for my name is in the Book of Life! I walk in the consciousness of my eternal destiny in Christ, and I live my life to honor the One who wrote my name there! Hallelujah!
