Prayers Of The Spirit – You Can Never Outgrow God’s Purposes

Study The Word

Ephesians 1:21 (KJV)
“Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.”

You see, when you look at this scripture, you notice something powerful: the plans and purposes of God, the will of God for your life, are not only for this world but also for the world which is to come! The will of God for you is eternal! The plans and purposes of God for you are eternal!

Now, why is this important? Because some of you have been thinking, “Well, I’ve been a Christian for 30 years now. What do I have to do with these prayers of the Spirit? This must be for new believers. I have come all these many years with God and never needed these things.” No! Listen to me carefully: even if you’ve been a Christian for 30 years and never knew or heard of this, the plans and purposes of God for every child of God are eternal! So as long as the eternal Word of God has revealed His will for you in this case in the form of these prayers of the Spirit; then that means that everyone is liable to endorse and begin the process of effecting that revealed will of God for your life; no matter how long one has been a Christian for.

Even if you’ve been a Christian for 50 years, 10 years, 100 years and you’ve never known about these prayers of the Holy Spirit, and you’ve never gone through a discipline or a program where you pray them over your life, then it’s even more so for you! And you know what?  It’s not going away! It’s for the life that now is and for that which is to come.

αἰώνιος aiōnios eternal – everlasting, without beginning or end, perpetual, forever

So, this spiritual development, these prayers, this will of God for you that is contained in the prayers of the Spirit is an eternal will.  You need to understand this: it’s an eternal will! The Greek word is aiōnios, means eternal, perpetual, without end, originating and existing in eternity – outside of time! So it does not matter your age. It does not matter how old you are regarding spiritual things. The plans and purposes of God for your life and your spiritual development are eternal! You can never outgrow this! You can never outgrow the will of God! You can never outgrow the purposes and plans of God for your life because they are eternal for you!

Think about this: from wherever you are, no matter how long you’ve been a Christian, no matter how long you’ve been a pastor, no matter how long you’ve been a prophet, no matter how long you’ve been an apostle, no matter how long you’ve been an evangelist, no matter how long you’ve been a teacher, if you’ve never gone through this, these are eternal purposes and plans for you; you are going to have to do so some day.

Another thing to understand when we say that these plans and purposes are eternal, and also considering what we discovered about the scriptures being given by “inspiration of God” also means that the prayers of the Spirit originate from eternity where God dwells, because they came directly from Him glory to God!

τέλειος teleios perfect – complete, mature, fully developed, reaching the intended goal

Now, Romans 12:2 tells us that our minds must be renewed so that we may prove what is that good and perfect will of God. The prayers of the Spirit because they completely contain the will of God means that they are the perfect and complete prayers of the Spirit of God concerning you. Think about that! Wow!
The word “perfect” here is teleios in Greek, meaning complete, fully developed, reaching the intended goal! God wants you to walk in the perfect, complete, fully developed will that He has for your life! So by means of the prayers of the Spirit you will be made fully complete, you will be fully developed and made perfect; thoroughly furnished unto good works!

You see, some people may say, “Hey, I’m a pastor now. What do I need with this?” Hold on! You are a child of God first! Hallelujah! And your spiritual development as a child of God comes first! Your position does not exempt you from the need for spiritual development according to the eternal will of God! In fact, because you’re leading God’s people, you need this even more! You need to know the perfect will of God for your own life first and begin to enforce it through the prayers of the Spirit so that you can lead others into the same!

βούλημα boulēma will – purpose, counsel, deliberate intention, desire, decree

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect. You see that? The purpose is that the man of God may be perfect, may be complete, may reach the intended goal! And this perfection, this completion, this reaching of God’s intended goal for your life, it’s an eternal pursuit! It never ends! The more you grow, the more there is to grow into! The deeper you go, the deeper there is to explore!

So don’t let anyone, including yourself, put a limitation on your pursuit of God’s will based on how long you’ve been saved! Don’t say, “Ah, you know, I’ve been a Christian for 30 years now. What have I to do with this?” No! This is for you! These are eternal purposes and plans! The will of God does not expire! The prayers of the spirit do not have an expiration date! They are as relevant for you today as they were the day you got saved, and they will remain relevant throughout eternity!

I want you to understand that God’s vision for your life is bigger than any single season. It’s bigger than any single decade. It’s bigger than your entire earthly existence! The plans and purposes that God has for you extend into eternity! When you pray the prayers of the spirit over your life, you’re not just praying for temporal blessings or earthly achievements. You’re praying for eternal development! You’re praying for the full manifestation of everything that God has designed you to become, both in this world and in the world which is to come!

This is why the apostle Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, included this phrase: “not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” He wanted us to understand the eternal scope of God’s purposes for us! He wanted us to know that we can never finish with God! We can never say, “I’ve arrived. I don’t need to grow anymore.” No! There’s always more! There’s always deeper! There’s always higher! Glory to God!

So today, be liberated from the limitation of thinking that spiritual development is only for new believers or for a particular season of life.

It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve missed. When the information of God’s revealed written will comes to you, receive it! Better late than never! The will of God is eternal, and you can step into it at any moment! You can begin to pray these prayers of the Spirit over your life right now, and your life will begin to journey into God’s direction! Things will start to make sense! Revelations, thoughts, ideas, the mind of God, things will become clearer and clearer! You will begin to understand the hope of His calling! Glory to God!
