The Holy Spirit Is The Author of The Scripture
Study The Word
Acts 18:25 – 26
This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
Here’s a critical truth many miss: the Holy Spirit is the author of the scriptures! This is why, despite the eloquence and knowledge some may possess, they cannot truly understand or correctly interpret the Word without Him. Remember Apollos? He was an eloquent man, mighty in the scriptures, well-instructed in the way of the Lord . He could speak and teach diligently, like a theologian, or one of those eloquent academics who know every verse . But something vital was missing: he “only knew the baptism of John”. He wasn’t baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit to speak in other tongues and prophesy; he lacked the Holy Spirit!
This is why Aquila and Priscilla had to explain “the way of God more perfectly” (Acts 18:26) to him and get him born again and filled with the Holy spirit before he left from there and went to Corinth. (Acts 19:1 – 4) And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

These disciples of John who the Apostle Paul also met at Ephesus were also only accustomed to the baptism of John, just like Apollos. And the Apostle Paul explained the way of God more perfectly to them, “Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” (Acts 19:4 – 6)
Knowing the letters of scriptures is good but isn’t enough; you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit in order for Him to explain them to you giving you accurate understanding; and from then on the scriptures will come alive in their full power and truth. Jesus Himself, before He ascended, told His disciples to “tarry in Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high”(Luke 24:49)—referring to the Holy Spirit . This was shortly after He had had to “open up their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures” (Luke 24:45), by blowing the Holy Spirit onto them imparting the understanding of the Spirit so that they could understand the scriptures!
If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, you will struggle to understand the scriptures. The scriptures will not make sense. Everything will appear like it is filled with contradictions. I’m sure you have heard certain people say that? The book just doesn’t make sense to them; they are always left with more questions than answers. The book is so spiritual, supernatural and powerful in that if you do not have the Holy Spirit it purposely will give you confusion. Listen, that certain people don’t understand the Bible it is not a mistake, it’s not by accident, but it is by divine design; it is intentional. It is the intentionality that makes the texts hide the understanding from those who do not have the Holy Spirit in them to understand it. Such that if the Holy Spirit doesn’t give you understanding you’ll remain with confusion and contradictions.
But those that would be humble to not only receive Jesus Christ but also receive the Spirit of God and be filled with Him will He open up their minds, and give to them understanding scriptures.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, sent to guide you into all truth that is in the scriptures. He will teach you all things and bring them to your remembrance. Without Him, you risk making shipwreck of the Word, misleading yourself and others, just like many do. So, if you want to truly understand the deep things of God in the scriptures, you must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Your relationship with the scriptures must change after today; understand that the Holy Spirit is the gateway to unlocking the understanding of the scriptures to unlock their divine power!
