Eternal Weight of Glory
Study the Word
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 KJV
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
In this life, pressures, persecutions, and troubles are certain and abound, hehe! The bible never promised us that our life in Christ will be void of these. On the contrary, I’m sure you found out that the moment you gave your life to Christ, or the moment you began to take your relationship and call of God to next and higher level seriously, it’s like all hell has broken loose. Don’t worry, and never worry about that. These are what I call the true signs of and signals of the authenticity of your salvation and or the authenticity of your calling. These challenges are evidences that either validate your new life in Christ, or validate your calling. As a matter fact, without these your salvation or your calling is actually questionable. So, when you see these things in your life, don’t start crying “Lord, why me?” but rather rejoice because what you’re experiencing is as a result of the authenticity of your salvation, and the authenticity of your calling.
Furthermore, it is an opportunity for the glory that is upon your life to shine forth brightly to overthrow what your facing.
ἐλαφρός elaphros light – light in weight, easy, small weight
Now, the things that you are going through, the Apostle Paul describes in our opening scripture as “light afflictions,” temporary hardships that are “but for a moment.” Hey!!
Why? Because they are working for us “a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory!” That means, that in order for the reality of the glorious life we now live to be revealed, they require these “light afflictions” to set the stage for a “glory reveal”. So how do we ensure that we get to expose and experience and see this glory that is in us? He says, this glorious reality is forged not by focusing on what’s visible, but on the things which are unseen.
θλίψις thlipsis affliction – a pressing, pressing together, pressure, oppression, affliction, distress, pressure anguish, burden, persecution, tribulation, trouble
The things that are seen – the visible attacks, the physical weapons, the overwhelming circumstances – are temporal. They are temporary and will pass. But the things which are not seen – the eternal truths, the eternal life that is inside you, the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside you, the innumerable company of angels that surround you, the spiritual weapons, the unwavering Word of God, and especially the name of Jesus Christ – these are eternal. Our power and victory come from looking at, meditating on, focusing on and wielding these unseen, eternal realities. This is where our triumph truly lies! So take time to meditate on these unseen realities today, and begin to bask in the weight of God’s eternal glory.
Pray The Word
Heavenly Father, I thank You that the present afflictions that I may be facing are light and temporary, working for me a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. I choose to fix my gaze not on the seen, but on the unseen realities of Your Kingdom, knowing that these eternal truths are my source of power, wisdom, provision, health, joy, peace protection and victory in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
Speak The Word
Any light afflictions that come my way or that I am facing right now are temporary; I’m strengthened and encouraged to face them and to go through them with a winning mentality! The glory of Christ in me is my source of strength and wisdom to overcome. I look not at the seen, but at the unseen word of God and the visions it produces in me always. The name of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and His eternal truths are my unshakeable foundation and my mighty weapons, and I use them. I am focused on these eternal sources of glory everyday, hallelujah!
